The new Royal Adelaide Hospital is part of a program of reform to ensure that South Australia has a responsive and sustainable health system for the future. Working as part of an international team led by Durrow Management, MAAP were engaged by South Australia (SA) Health as Healthcare Architects on the development of the new Hospital’s Exemplar Design for delivery through a Public Private Partnership model. Our work brought together a modern approach to departmental organisation, workforce planning and the highest quality patient environment in a low energy and ecologically conscious design.

Related Projects
Working closely with the SA Health management and clinical teams, we developed coordinated and costed floor plans for the acute teaching hospital underpinned by a site-specific masterplan coordinated with Adelaide’s city planning framework. The Exemplar Design represents the state-of-the-art in current hospital design, benchmarked against global competitors and delivered by a world-wide leading team of specialists.
The hospital opened in 2016 and it is the cornerstone of South Australia’s Health Care Plan providing world-class care for patients throughout the State, Northern Territory and other regions. Co-located with the SA Health and Medical Research Institute it is now a major teaching hospital with 800 beds, an ambulatory care centre and operating theatre suite.
